Sara asked what kind of car we're looking at. We're looking at the really, really cheap kind. Hubble is deploying in a few months and my car will be here by then, so we just need a temporary beater. When he redeploys we'll buy a new-ish car that's more permanent.
I have a job interview on Monday morning. Fingers crossed that I can actually get there and that it works out. It's not my dream job and half of me fears they won't hire me because it's a low clerical position (and they would consider me overqualified).
I plan to take my driving test on Wednesday so that I can also drive. We're renting a car this weekend to go out to Ktown to look at used cars. My husband is so cheap...the only thing he wanted to pay for was the Smart car...hahaha
We met the neighbors upstairs and they told us about this hooptie lot just outside of town and lent us a cable adapter so we can watch AFN on the TV that a guy in Hubble's office lent us.
We still don't have our temporary furniture. The day they were supposed to come, they said they'd be here between 12 and 6 pm. So I waited until 6:45pm and no one showed. Apparently they attempted to deliver at 7:30pm and said it was my fault for not being there to accept delivery. Uh...ok. Today they are supposed to deliver between 8am and 12pm. It's 10:15am and nary a word yet. I wish they would get here so I can go to the commissary to buy food (we are living day to day)! Anyway, I hate delivery schemes like that-- "Yes, we'll be there sometime between 8am and 5pm"--Really? You have no idea when you may possibly show up in an 8 hour window? I find that hard to believe.
--The dishwasher salt is a water softener. I spilled a few pieces on the floor and Howie ate one and seemed to enjoy it.
--The ration card system for spirits, tobacco, fuel and coffee has been in place since (reportedly) 1945. USAEUR petitioned the German government to stop rations in 2002, but they disagreed since the items rationed are highly taxed and provide billions of euros in revenue. There are no plans to petition again.

You are coming to K-town? Yeah! Welcome to my neck of the woods. You'll have to go to Chilis or Macaroni Grill while you are here. It will be a nice taste of home. Email me if you have any questions about the area! :)
You know what else they thought about rationing that we could sell for a gillion dollars? Aspirin! It's SO expensive on the economy!
Good luck with the car search and the driving test!
Your quality of life will definitely improve once you have wheels :)
Oh, I so get the frustration with the between 9 and 5 deliveries! The company I work for just moved into our office in April and the Verizon people, etc were all on those "schedules" -- I think it's a crock of shit!
Also -- thanks for spelling out the salt and ration card stuff!
It seems like everyone has been really supportive and helpful which is awesome. I wish you the best on your interview on Monday too!
Sounds like you have helpful neighbors! Hopefully, everything will start to fall into place and you'll get a job, car, and your furniture soon!
Yeah rations cards BLOW! It's such a pain to deal with.
Hope you find a cheap car soon and that you get the job.
So stupid about the temporary furniture. Sounds like something the Italians would do.
That was great. I chuckled about the curtains. men don't understand.
